Janet Carlson

Dr. Janet Carlson has worked in science education for more than two decades. Formerly an Associate Director, Chief Science Education Officer, and Director of the Center for Research and Evaluation at BSCS, Dr. Carlson became Executive Director in June 2007.
Dr. Carlson earned a B.A. in Environmental Biology from Carleton College in 1982, a master's in Curriculum and Instruction in 1986 from Kansasa State University, and her doctorate in Instruction and Curriculum in the Content Area: Science Education, in 1999 from the University of Colorado.
Janet oversaw the curriculum development, professional development, and research divisions of the organization, initiating research projects that study the effectiveness of standards-based science curriculum materials when implemented with varying degrees of professional development, and finding new opportunities for BSCS to partner with other organizations that are interested in improving the teaching and learning of science for all.
Dr. Carlson's range of experience includes teaching middle school and high school life and earth science, teaching science methods for preservice and master teachers, developing university-school partnerships to improve science teaching and learning, developing innovative science curriculum materials, leading professional development activities in science education, and conducting school-based research. |
