Sarah Wise joined the Center for Curriculum Development at BSCS in July 2007. She is currently working on the revision of BSCS Biology: A Human Approach.

Sarah first became involved in education at Swarthmore College, where she tutored peers in science writing, completed secondary teaching certification, and earned a B.A. in biology. She taught high school biology from 1998-2001 at Sacred Heart High School and Lick-Wilmerding High School, in the San Francisco Bay area. During this time she earned a M.A. in Education from San Francisco State University.

In 2001, Sarah came to the University of Colorado at Boulder to pursue her Ph.D. in evolutionary developmental biology, where she worked with fish embryos to investigate the developmental genetic underpinnings for evolutionary changes in teeth. During this time she led professional development workshops for graduate teaching assistants and local teachers, with a focus on evolution education. As a NSF GK-12 fellow, Sarah helped a middle school teacher include inquiry and evolution in her curriculum.

Sarah enjoys cycling, climbing, playing the bassoon, and knitting.
