The BSCS instructional materials are rich with a clean story line that my students find engaging. The professional development opportunities have moved the teachers in my department to a new level of understanding inquiry.
Earth Day
The first Earth Day was organized by Denis Hayes in 1970 to promote environmental activism and year-round progressive action, domestically and internationally.
BSCS staff celebrate Earth Day each year by heading outside for a half-day clean-up along Monument Creek, which runs adjacent to BSCS headquarters in Colorado Springs. This year's clean-up will take place on Friday, 20 April.

Last December, BSCS donated 585 trees in honor of staff to be planted along I-70 in Colorado. Why? The Western Bark Beetle epidemic in the state has turned the once-picturesque pine-green mountainsides of the Colorado Rockies into a site of speckled red and brown. The impact of the epidemic extends beyond the views as threats of water quality issues and catastrophic wildfires become evident. The Colorado Forest Service is actively working to remove, chip, and debark infested and dead trees, and the next step is recovery, which includes seeding and replanting acres of forest.
What can you do to protect and enhance our environment and promote respect and good caretaking practices for the next generation?
