BSCS uses the most recent studies by eminent researchers to provide pertinent/relative professional development for teachers who wish to have their student learn science.
Dr. Tom Christensen, Professor of Physics at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, will present Surface Science: A Shallow Look at a Deep Subject.
This Science on Tap conversation will focus on the world of surface science, one of the oldest branches of nanoscience/nanotechnology, where physics, chemistry, and engineering merge to look at the behavior of atoms on and near surfaces. Dr. Christensen will explore how the structure of materials changes near a surface and how this can impact other properties of materials. Christensen will also talk about the tools that used to explore surfaces on the near-atomic scale.
Science on Tap is sponsored by the Colorado Springs Science Center Project (CSSCP) as a community outreach program designed to gather audiences in a fun and casual environment to learn from local scientists about contemporary science topics.
BSCS Executive Director Janet Carlson is a founding director of CSSCP, a collaborative, community-engaged initiative to build a science and technology center in Colorado Springs that stimulates and inspires the inquisitive mind.
