Evolution and the Environment: Activities for the Classroom 2005

This CD contains a set of engaging activities that align with the 2005 Evolution Symposium organized by BSCS, AIBS, and NABT, which brought together leading experts and provided science teachers with a general review of the philosophical issues surrounding the teaching of evolution and a broad update on current evolutionary science content related to the environment.

This CD contains a compilation of six major sections and 12 complete classroom activities, including copymasters. Evolution and the Environment: Activities for the Classroom 2005 brings to life the intimate relationship between evolution and the environment.

Evolutionary Science and Society: Activities for the Classroom

To complement the proceedings of the symposium, BSCS has developed an activity book for teachers. This book, which includes materials for both teachers and students, is a collection of classic BSCS activities on evolution and will be organized around the five themes of the symposium.

The materials make reference to the resources available in the proceedings book as they relate to each activity. A CD of the proceedings will be included with this book.

Galápagos: An Inquiry in Biological Evolution

Developed by BSCS and MW Productions and published by BSCS in 2005, this program is composed of a multimedia CD-ROM featuring simulated fieldwork in the Galápagos and a student field log that guides students through activities and helps them organize and analyze the data they collect during their fieldwork. The field log also includes background readings covering fundamental concepts and excerpts from The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner.

The Nature of Science and the Study of Biological Evolution

This program was developed by BSCS and published by NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) in 2005. The program consists of a student text with six chapters that present a convincing study of evolution and a companion CD with in-depth activities that explore key concepts from each chapter.
