The Brain: Understanding Neurobiology Through the Study of Addiction

Grades 9-12, 2000

The BrainUses information about drugs of addiction to teach fundamental concepts of neurobiology. An analysis of current textbooks demonstrates that most presentations on drug abuse and addiction do not include information on how drugs alter brain function by changing the way neurons relay information to other neurons. In addition, these materials, unlike many others, present the science that underlies why addiction should be treated as a chronic disease rather than a moral weakness.
