Basic Genetics: A Human Approach, 3rd Edition

Introductory Biology; Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co./Ward's 1999

Basic GeneticsThe third edition of Basic Genetics includes thorough updates of the scientific information contained in the popular activities from prior editions as well as new activities that address topics such as genes and cancer and mechanisms of nontraditional inheritance. As with the previous editions, the third edition of Basic Genetics highlights the personal and societal implications of advances in human genetics.

On the basis of a survey of current users, we have deleted a number of out-dated or little-used activities. All remaining activities from the second edition have been revised and updated, and we have added the following new activities:
  • Anticipation: Some Genes Do Change
  • The Case of Nathaniel Wu (genetic testing and discrimination in employment)
  • Discovery of the Gene for Huntington Disease
  • Genes and Cancer: Breast and Ovarian Cancer
  • Genetic Technology in Basic Research: Evolution Theory
  • The Human Genome Project
  • Mitochondrial Inheritance
  • Why Are There Two Kinds of Cell Division?
  • Why Study Human Genetics?
