Curriculum Development > Middle School 6-8 > NIH Curriculum Supplements > The Science of Healthy Behaviors   The Science of Healthy Behaviors (Grades 7–8) 2006 BSCS recently received word that this middle school module has won a Plain Language Award from the National Institutes of Health. The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 15 April 2008 at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The Science of Healthy Behaviors won in the “Good” category (categories are Excellent, Good, and Honorable Mention). The Science of Healthy Behaviors introduces students to the scientific study of behavior. Through inquiry-based activities, students investigate what behavior is and how it can be studied. The students investigate influences on behaviors and examine the health outcomes, and as behavioral therapists in role-playing activities, they develop their understanding of the module’s concepts and prepare to apply them in their own lives. The module is standards based and meets science content, teaching, and assessment standards as expressed in the National Science Education Standards. This supplement was funded by the National Institutes of Health and developed by BSCS in cooperation with the NIH National Institute of Nursing Research.
