BSCS Study of the 5Es

BSCS 5e Instructional Model StudyFunded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Science Education, the Clinical Study of the BSCS 5E Instructional Model focused on the impact on student learning based on two different instructional models—the BSCS 5E model and a traditional teacher-centered instructional approach.

Three master science teachers drawn from the local Colorado Springs school districts provided an external perspective on the analysis and validated the Fidelity of Implementation of the two different treatments.

Following the in-house instructional sessions, the students returned to BSCS in late August to participate in follow-up interviews with BSCS science educators and external evaluators. BSCS Science Educator David Pinkerton served as instructor for both instructional approaches.
