This curriculum allows students to ask questions, collaborate with peers, and carry out investigations. It also provides teachers with the tools to make biology interesting for students by integrating reading, discussing, experimenting, presenting, watching, calculating, and writing—there is something for every student.

Louis M. Gomez, Ph.D., is the Helen Faison Professor of Urban Education and Senior Scientist at the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) at The University of Pittsburgh. He also serves as Senior Partner at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Dr. Gomez is dedicated to collaborative research and development with urban communities to bring advanced instruction and support for community formation to traditionally underserved schools. More recently, his focus is on research and development organized around high-leverage problems embedded in the day-to-day work of teaching and learning. Dr. Gomez joined the BSCS Board of Directors in 2011.
