NIH 10 Supplements for Science Education: Evolution and Medicine, and Rare Diseases and Scientific Inquiry

  • Developed two National Institutes of Health (NIH) supplements: Evolution and Medicine, and Rare Diseases and Scientific Inquiry
  • Both supplements contain a teacher’s guide, interactive web activities, copymasters, and a rich teacher background section
  • Lessons are aligned to the National Science Education Standards and were successfully field tested in diverse classrooms across the United States
  • Funding source: National Institutes of Health Office of Science Education (NIH OSE)

BSCS recently completed development of two high school science teaching supplements with funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The middle school module, Rare Diseases and Scientific Inquiry, focuses on how scientific inquiry is used by scientists to learn about rare diseases, and how learning about rare diseases helps us understand human systems.

The high school module, Evolution and Medicine, focuses on how evolutionary principles inform medical practice and an understanding of human health and disease. Both modules are designed for two weeks of instruction.

Both complimentary supplements are available from NIH.
