Seventy 4th-, 5th-, and 6th-grade teachers from the Colorado Springs and Greeley, Colorado, areas took part in a nine-day STeLLA Summer Institute held on the Colorado College campus in Colorado Springs 16-26 July.
The STeLLA program (Science Teachers Learning through Lesson Analysis) is a professional development program that supports teachers in teaching concepts in biology, physical science, and Earth science. The program focuses on examining the following key, research-based ideas for teacher learning:
- Teachers can improve their science teaching by deepening their science content knowledge through collaboration with university-level science content faculty, and
- Teachers can improve their science teaching effectiveness by deepening their science content knowledge and using two lenses - the Student Thinking Lens and the Science Content Storyline Lens - to analyze science teaching and learning through videocases of science teaching.
